Dahlias

After yesterday’s somewhat gothic post I shall return to my usual leitmotif, pretty flowers.

The garden is becoming increasingly autumnal, but some splashes of summer remain. The dahlias are doing much better now that the strong sun has gone, and have filled out and flowered again. I know I should be thinking about digging their tubers up for the winter, but there is no way that is going to happen as long as they are flowering this prettily.

  1. Reminds me of my childhood – Mum always had beds for dahlia’s, so old fashioned and blousy! And the chore of lifting and drying them every year… I see dalhias and I think of my childhood 🙂

  2. They are old fashioned and lousy, but so pretty. To be honest I always leave it too late to lift them and have had to buy fresh plants for the past three years. I resolve not to be so lazy this year, but I just cannot lift them when they are flowering!
