The thing that I love most about living in Vienna, is that you are never far from the countryside. You get all the benefits of living in a bustling capital city, but peace and quiet is within easy reach.
It was a beautiful morning on Friday. I feel like I need to make the most of any remaining good weather before the Austrian winter reappears, so I went for a walk in our local vineyards.
Vienna is unusual in producing significant amounts of wine from the 700 hectares of vineyards that lie within the city limits. You can go and sample these at the many “Heurige”, (restaurants/inns that traditionally sold only that year’s wine, but now have more extensive offerings) or just buy them to enjoy in the comfort of your own home. I am not going to launch into a wine by wine review, this is a photography blog and not one for oenophiles; but there are many truly excellent wines made in this city, you can trust me because I have sampled a great many of them in some depth.
So here are a few pictures of my vineyard wander. They are picking the grapes right now, and I am looking forward to enjoying the fruits of this labour in the not too distant future.
