Peony

I absolutely adore peonies. Just as the Spring flowers fade, their swelling buds let me know that there is more colour to look forward to. This bloom is the first one to open this year. It was there in all its glory when I took the kids to school this morning and as soon as a bit of sun came out I grabbed the camera.

The German name for peony is “Pfingstrose” which means “Whitsun Rose”. Whitsun is a public holiday here and I am looking forward to enjoying it in my garden, surrounded by pretty peonies.
